hreflang check

Do4U checks the hreflang links of a page and of every language version it lists. You enter one address. Do4U reads the page, collects its hreflang links and then reads each listed version. The code checks the whole set: does every version link back and list itself, are the language and region codes valid in the form Google accepts (for example en-GB, not en-UK), is there an x-default, are there duplicates, and is every version reachable without a redirect, without noindex, with its own canonical and a matching html lang. You get a list of the pages with errors, warnings and a short explanation for each finding. No AI is used, and the check is free.

Who it is for

For website owners, agencies and developers who run a website in several languages or for several countries and want search engines to show the right version to each visitor.

Typical uses

  • Check the language versions after translating a website
  • Find missing return links between language versions
  • Find wrong codes such as en-UK or jp
  • Check a relaunch for redirected or noindex language versions

Example

Input

https://example.com/en/pricing hreflang links on this page: en → /en/pricing, de → /de/preise, pl → /pl/cennik, en-UK → /uk/pricing

Result

en-UK: error – UK is a reserved region code and Google ignores it; use en-GB. /pl/cennik: error – no return link: the page does not list /en/pricing. /uk/pricing: error – the address redirects to /en/pricing, the version for en. Whole set: warning – there is no x-default entry. /de/preise: OK.

Questions and answers

Does the hreflang check use AI?

No. Do4U reads the pages and the code checks the rules. The check is free; there is a daily limit of checks per account.

Which hreflang links are read?

The link elements with rel="alternate" and hreflang in the HTML of the pages. hreflang in the HTTP header and in sitemaps is not read. For each check, Do4U reads a limited number of language versions in a limited time.

Why is en-UK wrong?

Google accepts a language code in ISO 639-1, optionally with a region in ISO 3166-1. The code for the United Kingdom is GB, so the right value is en-GB. UK is a reserved code, and Google ignores that part.

Is my text stored?

Only as long as needed: 7 days on Free, 30 days with a package – or not at all if you choose not to store it. Processing happens on our own servers in the EU (Poland).

Can I use the result right away?
