Describe charts and infographics

Upload one picture of a chart, table, map or infographic and Do4U writes a short alt text and a long description that starts with the main message. It lists the axes and units, reads the values into a data table and marks each value as printed or estimated, and it copies the text that is in the picture. You also get an HTML snippet (figure, alt text, caption, the long description in an expandable part and the data table) and the table as CSV. The code checks the result: numbers must be real numbers in the notation of the language, values need their unit when the axis has one, the shares of a pie chart must add up to about 100, and numbers in the description must be in the table. The AI sees the picture in a fixed, limited size and can miss small print, and values without a label are only estimated from the axis. So the result always carries the note: AI estimate, please check the numbers.

Questions and answers

How exact are the numbers?

Not exact enough to publish without a look. Numbers that are printed in the picture are usually read correctly, but they can be misread. Values without a label are estimated from the axis and marked with the sign ≈. The AI sees the picture in a fixed, limited size, so small print, thin lines and crowded charts can be missed. That is why the result always says: AI estimate, please check the numbers. Compare every number with your original before you publish.

What does the code check?

That each value is a real number in the notation of the language (decimal comma or point, thousands separators, Arabic-Indic digits), that values have their unit when the axis has one, that the shares of a pie chart add up to about 100 (you can change the allowed deviation), and that numbers in the description are in the data table, on the axes or in the text of the picture. A number that is not found gets a note. These are checks of patterns, not proof that the numbers are right.

What do I get besides the text?

A short alt text, a long description that starts with the main message, the axes and units, a data table with a reading for each value, the text that is in the picture, an HTML snippet and the table as CSV. You can choose the language of the description and a short or normal long description.

Is my text stored?

Only as long as needed: 7 days on Free, 30 days with a package – or not at all if you choose not to store it. Processing happens on our own servers in the EU (Poland).

Can I use the result right away?
